HONG KONG—Pressure is mounting on China’s Huawei Technologies Co. , as growth slows in the face of tightening U.S. restrictions on its chip supplies and as an increasing number of countries shun its 5G gear. Huawei is nearly six weeks into a new era in which it no longer has access to the global market for computing chips, following a Trump administration ban on their export without a license. […] The more urgent problem for Huawei is its ability to source chips, the backbone of virtually every product Huawei sells. […] He said the company has an adequate hoard of chips to supply its business of building telecom equipment for carriers, but said it is looking for ways to plug a gap in its smartphone business. […] The reality is that Huawei is losing out on mobile opportunities in a huge range of countries,” Mr. Pongratz said.
