As we are all aware the MeToo movement has led to a sudden increase in reports of sexual assaults in the past few years and a recent court judgement in England related to sexual misbehavior could well have repercussions here.
The case concerned a legal document, called a non-disclosure agreement, which is used to prevent alleged sexual assaults from being made public.
A very well-known businessman, a British billionaire no less, had allegedly sexually assaulted a number of his former employees.
When they threatened to go public and report the assaults to the police, the businessman bought their silence by paying them money on condition that they agreed not to make any criminal complaints and that they signed such NDAs.
The NDAs compelled the women never to make the allegations public in any way.
When a newspaper learned about this they asked the Court of Appeal for permission to publicize the allegations and in effect overturn the NDAs.
