Merkel’s make-or-break deadline

Angela Merkel is struggling to form a government and her self-imposed deadline of tomorrow is looming large on the
horizon. She is trying to form an unprecedented government and is expected to resume final talks today with the Free Democrats, the Greens and her own Cristian democratic-led bloc. The talks have previously stumbled over a range of issues from climate change to immigration policy, Merkel’s biggest fear is a triggering a re-election if no agreement can be made, which potentially paves the way for the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany party to have another run at office after they gained strong support in September’s election.
